Inlay & Onlay Restorations

Dr. Zajac and his associates offer our East Oakville Dental patients here in Oakville, inlay and onlay restorations that are custom-made fillings made of tooth coloured porcelain that is permanently cemented into your tooth. Dr. Zajac and his associates may also utilize a composite material or gold to repair teeth that have large defective fillings or those teeth that have been damaged by decay or trauma.

Inlays and onlays are an ideal alternative to conventional silver fillings and when tooth coloured porcelain is used; a beautiful alternate to amalgam fillings is produced.

Onlays are essentially identical to inlays with the exception that one or more of the chewing cusps (the elevated feature or raised point on your tooth), have also been affected and need to be included in the restoration.

Why would you need an inlay or an onlay?
  • Broken or fractured teeth
  • Cosmetic enhancement
  • Treat decayed teeth
  • Fractured fillings
  • Large fillings
I need one, what should I expect?
‍The procedure usually requires two appointments. At the first appointment, the decay or old filling material is removed and space is thoroughly cleaned and prepared. A temporary filling
is applied to protect your tooth while the inlay or onlay is made.

At the second appointment, your new inlay or onlay is carefully cemented into place by Dr. Zajac or one of his associates.
If you have any further questions about inlays or onlays please feel free to speak with Dr. Zajac or one of our East Oakville Dental team members today.
